A dog walker made a gruesome discovery Sunday afternoon in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park when he happened upon a severed human arm near the polo fields, according to a police sergeant.

Police spokesman Sgt. Mike Andraychak said police were called to Middle Drive and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive on the south side of the polo fields at 4:16 p.m.

“A man was walking with his dog, and he discovered a human arm,” Andraychak said. “It was described as being skeletal.”

The man called police, and responding officers located a human body in some nearby bushes.

“There were obvious signs of decomposition,” Andraychak said.

The body is only described as that of an unidentified male.

The investigation is not considered criminal at this point, pending the results of the medical examiner’s investigation, Andraychak said.
