7:49 PM: Police have reopened a city block in San Francisco this evening after they suspected a street performer was using a live hand grenade in his juggling act, but the grenade turned out to be a false replica.
A witness spotted a hand grenade at about 5 p.m. being juggled by a performer on the 300 block of Jefferson Street, San Francisco police Lt. Troy Dangerfield said.
Police detained the performer, a man whose identity has not been released, and closed off the block while a bomb squad investigated. The squad concluded the item being juggled only looked like a grenade and police confiscated the device.
The block reopened at about 6:20 p.m., Dangerfield said. He could not comment if the performer had been released.
