Kamala_Harris.jpgSan Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris will be the state’s new attorney general, her opponent conceded today.

Harris’ Republican opponent, Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley, issued a statement this morning acknowledging that he has lost the close race.

“While the margin is extremely narrow and ballots are still being counted, my campaign believes that we cannot make up the current gap in the vote count,” Cooley said.

According to the latest totals released Tuesday evening, Harris received 46 percent of the vote compared to 45.5 percent for Cooley, a difference of 51,585 votes.
