Hello from the Richmond District!

If you’re interested in the food movement and the controversial topic of genetically engineered food, don’t miss “The Future of Food” documentary at the 4-Star Theater tonight. The film’s director, Deborah Koons Garcia, will be at the screening for a special Q&A after the film.

Last weekend, elementary school students teamed up with professional architects and builders for the 27th annual LEAP Sandcastle Contest on Ocean Beach. The theme was “Sand Francisco” so there were plenty of city landmarks on display like Lombard Street, AT&T Park, sea lions and Coit Tower. Check out pics from the event – you’ll love the winning sculpture from Rooftop Elementary.

There are a couple of fun family events this weekend. On Saturday, Star of the Sea School hosts their Fall Festival which closes down a block of 8th Avenue with “Touch-A-Truck”, a bonanza of fire trucks, police cars, construction vehicles, buses, and more. Kids can explore and role-play to their heart’s content.

On Sunday, pedal over to the SF Bicycle Coalition’s Family Biking Day in Golden Gate Park. There are plenty of special events for cycling families including a bike scavenger hunt, a family bike parade, a bike road-eo, and even special training to get your tot off training wheels.

I came across some great vintage photos of San Francisco streetcars recently, including a few that ran through the Richmond District. Check out the photos and interesting history on these transportation relics.

Have a great weekend everyone!
