Single Brazilian Pink male tarantula seeks loving, sexually mature female who won’t eat him to enjoy some good vibrations together, or so the personal ad goes. And thanks to the power of the Exploratorium and the Bay Area Tarantula Society, finding that special well-fed spider with a healthy sexual appetite is that much easier.
“At any moment during a tarantula date, which can last anywhere from five minutes to an hour,” according to the Exploratorium, “the female may lunge at her suitor with deadly speed, ending the encounter with a venomous bite.” Which makes the evenings of October 31 and November 4 especially exciting for John Troupe, who will introducing his aforementioned male tarantula to a series of possible mates, with you watching it all go down.
“I lost one once,” says Troupe. “We try to make sure that the male and female are well fed before we introduce them.”
