10/20 4:34 PM: Two men arrested in connection with a shooting in San Francisco’s Mission District early Thursday morning have been released in what was an apparent case of mistaken identity.
Officers responded to a shooting at the corner of South Van Ness Avenue and 26th Street just before 1 a.m., where they found a 23-year-old man shot three times, police said.
The man was taken to a local hospital and is expected to survive.
According to police, the victim had gotten into a verbal argument with one of the suspects, who then pulled out a gun and shot him.
Shortly afterward, police pulled over a Pontiac with two men inside. The men matched descriptions provided by witnesses to the shooting and were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
However, the men have since been released, police Sgt. Mike Andraychak said today.
The arrests were apparently a case of mistaken identity, and the two men have no known gang affiliation.
Andraychak said the shooting is still be investigated by the Police Department’s gang task force.
10/28 5:16 PM: Two men believed to have gang ties were arrested after a shooting early this morning in the city’s Mission District.

According to police, the victim had gotten into a verbal argument with one of the suspects, who then pulled out a gun and shot him.
The suspect then fled with two others in a Pontiac, which was pulled over nearby a short time later, police said.
Two men–Alex Guevara, 20, of Daly City, and Joshua Ontiveros, 20, of San Francisco–who were in the vehicle when it was pulled over. They matched descriptions provided by witnesses to the shooting and were arrested, according to police.
Both were booked into San Francisco County Jail for attempted murder and conspiracy.
The shooting is being investigated by the Police Department’s gang task force.
Both the suspects and the victim are thought to be members of the Norteno street gang, which operates in the area, according to police.
The city attorney’s office in 2007 secured a civil injunction against the Norteno gang in that neighborhood.
