sfpd_squad.jpgOne man is in custody after San Francisco police fired shots at the man Thursday night in the city’s Bayview District, but no one was injured in the exchange, police said.

Plainclothes police officers had stopped a suspicious vehicle in the area of La Salle Avenue and Third Street at about 8:40 p.m. and were attempting to arrest the driver, police Sgt. Troy Dangerfield said.

The officers became involved in a physical altercation with the suspect, who then started his car and began to drive away while the officers were still trying to contain him, Dangerfield said.

“Officers were in some type of fear and fired,” Dangerfield said.

The fleeing suspect was not hit by the shots and was apprehended a short distance away on Jerrold Avenue by officers from the Bayview Station, he said.

No one else was injured during the exchange.

Investigators continue to examine the events surrounding the shooting.
