Hello from the west side,

I hope everyone is enjoying their short work week and looking forward to the rapidly approaching weekend.

Golden Gate Park is full of free goodies for you. Friday morning, the city will officially celebrate the completion of the Music Concourse restoration. The fountains are back on, paths are paved and the bandshell is ready for another 100 years. Get the scoop on the concourse’s history and if you can, be there at 9:30am on Friday to celebrate.

On Saturday it’s time to kick off your shoes and feel the grass beneath your dancing feet at the free Power to the Peaceful Festival. Michael Franti, the king of feel-good tunes like “Sound of Sunshine” and “Say Hey (I Love You)”, puts on the festival and headlines it. You can also catch former American Idol finalist Crystal Bowersox on stage, plus a host of DJ’s and all kinds of exhibitors.

If rock and pop aren’t your thing, Opera in the Park on Sunday may be just the (free) ticket. Opera aficionados take over Sharon Meadow and Hippy Hill to enjoy arias al fresco and a free copy of the Sunday Chronicle. There’s something about reading the Chron on a blanket under the sun fog with live opera wafting over you that is just, so, San Francisco.

For all you bookworms out there, don’t miss Dave Eggers, the author of the award-winning novel Zeitoun at Green Apple Books next Tuesday. He’ll be there to say hello and sign copies his book about post-hurricane New Orleans.

Have a great weekend everyone!
