sfpd_cityhall.jpgThe San Francisco medical examiner’s office today identified a woman found dead late Tuesday at a Mission District residential hotel as 37-year-old Amy Mustain.

Police found Mustain’s body at a hotel in the 2000 block of Mission Street at about 11:30 p.m., after an anonymous male caller reported the death. The caller was not there when police arrived.

Later, a man believed to be the same caller phoned the Police Department’s Mission Station to “turn himself in,” but he never showed up, police said.

Mustain lived in San Francisco but had no fixed address, according to the medical examiner’s office.

The medical examiner’s office has called the death “suspicious,” but has not yet determined an official cause. An autopsy is being performed today.
