To assist victims of the San Bruno disaster whose vehicles were damaged by Thursday’s explosion and fire, AAA Northern California announced Monday that it is offering free tow service to affected residents.

If a car was damaged in the fire, the auto association will tow the vehicle to any repair shop within 10 miles of the incident site, regardless of whether the resident is a AAA member.

“This is the first time many residents will be seeing the damage,” association spokesman Michael Geeser said in a statement.

“Offering free tow service is the least we can do for homeowners who are trying to assess the damage to their homes,” Geeser said.

Mobile facilities have been set up by the Daly City and San Mateo AAA offices to help members file claims and provide emergency assistance, according to the association.
