A public meeting will be held tonight by the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority to hear the community’s opinions on the process of the BART extension to San Jose.
The meeting is an opportunity for the community to comment on changes to the design and implementation of the project, which will bring BART to downtown San Jose from its current end point in Fremont.
The most notable change is the delivery of the line in phases.
The 16.1-mile project would begin with a 10-mile, two-station extension that would start just south of a future Warm Springs station in Fremont and end in the Berryessa area in north San Jose, VTA officials said.
The second phase of the project will involve the construction of a 6-mile section that will include a 5.1-mile subway tunnel through downtown San Jose, ending at ground level in Santa Clara near the Caltrain station.
The second phase is not included in the report being discussed tonight.
A presentation with more specifics on the first phase will be given at tonight’s meeting.
The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the lounge at East Side Union High School District offices at 830 North Capital Ave. in San Jose.
