Scales & Gavel 1.jpgA driver accused of a fatal hit-and-run earlier this month in San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury neighborhood that left an elderly woman dead was arraigned in San Francisco Superior Court this morning, according to the district attorney’s office.

Iddo Avital, 26, of San Francisco, pleaded not guilty this morning to vehicular manslaughter and felony hit-and-run charges, district attorney’s office spokesman Seth Steward said.

Avital is accused of hitting 70-year-old Joyce Lau with his black Toyota Prius at Waller and Cole streets on the morning of Sept. 1 and then driving off. He was arrested later the same day.

Avital is out of custody after posting $15,000 bail, Steward said.

He added that prosecutors will make a motion to raise bail on Monday.
