police-light-bar1.jpgA California Highway Patrol helicopter scooped up an injured hiker who had fallen into a ravine along a Marin County hiking trail Monday afternoon, the CHP said.

At about 3 p.m., the helicopter whirled into action after the Marin County Sheriff’s Office called for assistance in transporting the hiker, Charlotte Loving of Concord, according to the CHP.

Loving had been hiking along the Cataract Trail, which runs south from Alpine Lake along the north face of Mount Tamalpais, when she fell 22 feet into a ravine.

Upon its arrival at approximately 3:25 p.m., the chopper lowered a basket below the tree line of the forested trail, scooped up Loving and flew north, landing at Alpine Dam to prepare Loving for medical transport.

She was transported to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek for treatment of her injuries, which included a laceration to the back of her head, a possible fracture of her right ankle and abrasions to her right elbow, the CHP said.
