sfpd_squad.jpgCity Attorney Dennis Herrera has agreed to settle in a case of a man hit by an SFPD vehicle. The amount of the settlement? A cool $2.4 million, to be paid by the city of San Francisco.

On December 5th, 2004, Carlos Garcia, then 21, was stuck by a police vehicle at Mission and Cortland, and left with severe injuries to his brain.

There was some disagreement regarding the circumstances of the accident: while the cops said Garcia was crossing against the light, and was drunk, witnesses say Garcia had the green, and the police car was speeding with no lights or siren as it ran the light.

A lawsuit was filed on Garcia’s behalf against SF about a year after the accident.
