The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency is advising customers about construction taking place at the West Portal station between Monday and Wednesday as part of an ongoing Muni Metro fare gate improvement project.
To help customers access the subway more quickly using the Clipper smart card, crews began installing new fare gates, emergency and swing gates, and ticket vending machines at various Muni Metro stations earlier this year, according to Muni officials.
Between Monday and Wednesday, construction will be taking place in the westbound direction at the West Portal station. During construction, the set of faregates will have only one fare gate open. Signs will be posted to direct customers along the route to the open gate.
The fare gate improvement project is expected to finish at all nine underground Muni Metro stations over the course of the next three months.
The new equipment is replacing older machines, some of which were installed more than 30 years ago, according to Muni officials.
Anyone with questions about the project is asked to send an e-mail to translinkfeedback@sfmta.com.
