A San Francisco man accused of impersonating civil engineers and forging building documents for dozens of construction projects throughout the city pleaded not guilty in court today to 232 felony counts.
Jimmy Jen, 56, a formerly licensed civil engineer, allegedly forged the signatures and stamps of two licensed engineers on documents related to more than 100 construction projects throughout the city between 1990 and 2007, according to prosecutors. He and an associate who worked for him were arrested on Aug. 3.
In San Francisco Superior Court this morning, Jen was arraigned on the charges through his newly appointed attorney, Peter Furst. He then pleaded not guilty.
Jen remains in custody on $10 million bail.
The construction projects Jen is alleged to have fraudulently secured were mostly residential but also included the redevelopment of the now-closed Alexandria Theater in the Richmond District into a condominium complex.
Prosecutors have amassed thousands of pages of evidentiary documents in the case.
Furst said today he has not had a chance to review any of the material and was not prepared to comment on the case.
The case returns to court Sept. 17.
