funeral-wreath-green-white-300x300.jpgSF Weekly has stayed on last week’s story of the man found dead in his van near USF, first identifying him as 59-year-old Sigmund Leonard, then profiling the dead man in a rather touching piece today.

Leonard “grew up in the Haight, in the Fillmore and he saw the Black Panthers and the Hippie movement. He had pictures of my grandparents marching with Martin Luther King, Jr.” his niece, Terra Red, told the Weekly.

From the article it sounds like Leonard, while beloved by his family, “had a little trouble in life,” and, unable to hold a steady job, relied on disability, family, and friends to get by.

I won’t ever pass by one of those perma-parked vans out by the beach again without thinking about this story, check it out.
