So they’re demolishing the Transbay Terminal, we all know that. But what are they doing with the fixtures, furniture, etc? I was looking at pictures of it and it seems like there is some stuff with real character in there. Are they doing anything with that stuff (auctioning it off?) or is it all getting junked?

Don’t worry – you’ll be able to look at (if not sit on) the old Transbay Terminal benches again. Joyce Oishi, a member of the Transbay Program Management team, told me that several museums — such as the California State Railroad Museum, the Western Railway Museum, and the future CalTrans Museum — came through the terminal and salvaged “anything significant.” Keep a look out for that “Shoe Shine” shine coming to a museum near(ish) you.

Think of “Ask the Appeal” as your own personal genie: no Bay-related question is too big or too small. Whether you’re concerned with a municipal question, a consumer advocacy issue or simply with consuming alcohol, email us your questions at ask@sfappeal.com (or, find answers to past questions here). We’ll either do the dirty work and talk to the folks in charge, contact an expert in the field, or – if your question is particularly intriguing or juicy – develop it into a full-blown investigative article.
