Bring out your inner skeptic this Saturday at Showdogs! Bay Area Skeptics have joined forces with James Randi and DJ Grothe for a free meet and greet.
Randi, a skeptic extraordinaire, is famous for his investigations into the paranormal and pseudoscientific. His website, the James Randi Educational Foundation, provides resources, scholarships, and event information to promote critical thinking and research. The foundation offers a $1,000,000 prize (the Pigasus Award) to “any person or persons who can demonstrate any psychic, supernatural or paranormal ability of any kind under mutually agreed upon scientific conditions.” This could be your big chance to make a grand!
Grothe is a program director at the Center of Inquiry the president of the James Randi Educational Foundation. His area of interest, like Randi’s, is in the paranormal, exposing “the powers of the mind, parapsychology, and the challenge that skeptics bring to paranormal claims,” which you can read more about at his website (we’ve just been told by a representative of the James Randi Educational Foundation that Grothe’s website, with his title and areas of interest, is “out of date” and inaccurate. Go on Saturday and ask him about THAT, why don’t ya?)
This isn’t a presentation, just a chance to meet these guys and talk to them, so show up ready to chat. For more information and to RSVP, go to their meetup page here.
