wizard-of-oz-apple-tree.jpgHelp make a block greener and add some foliage to the streets this weekend! The Friends of the Urban Forest (FUF) will be sponsoring a tree-planting on Saturday, July 31 in the North Panhandle area. The event will bring in new trees to sidewalk areas where property owners have requested more.

The local organizer this time will be Heidi Lakics, a certified arborist working with FUF. To volunteer at the tree-planting, you can RSVP to her on this calendar of FUF events. No experience is needed. FUF will provide you all the tools and instructions. You may even walk away with some new tree knowledge like tree identification skills or proper planting and pruning practices. Sign up to be a volunteer here to stay posted on future events.

FUF will plant trees in any San Francisco neighborhoods where at least 30 trees are requested. Property owners can request a tree here. FUF help property owners subsidize planting costs such as paying for permits, sidewalk modifications, tree selection, and planting labor. They’ve planted over 40,000 trees to date and are still counting.
