sfpd_squad.jpgAn unsuspecting group of male coworkers were having a picnic in McLaren Park on Saturday, enjoying the sunny day.

At 12:20 in the afternoon, the picnickers were robbed by two armed men in their mid-twenties, 1 with a weapon, who took wallets and personal items belonging to the victims.

According to SFPD spokesperson Sergeant Dangerfield, McClaren Park (the city’s second largest park after Golden Gate Park) “looks like a nice spot to picnic on a sunny day, but that area is close to public housing and is shaded by trees making it hidden from view.” He surmised that the picnickers were not familiar with the area, and unaware of its proximity to areas with high incidence of drug activity, robberies, and other crime.

Perhaps most notably, McLaren made it into blotter headlines about a year ago when a decomposing body was found on the western side of the park.
