1939transbayterminal-in-2008.jpgIn case you somehow haven’t heard, the Transbay Terminal is being shut down and demolished in order to make way for a new station that will supposedly be something like “Grand Central Station-West”. In honor of the closing, Caltrans will be giving public tours this Friday, July 30th from 12 to 4, beginning on each hour.

This is your last chance to a look at the transportation center that served as the terminal for trains that crossed the Bay Bridge on the lower deck from 1939 until 1958. These days, it’s a home for AC Transit buses and homeless people. Visitors will get to see previously closed off areas such Cuddles Bar, the shoe shine shop, and the Terminal jail.
