slurpee.jpgAh, Sunday: the Sabbath; a day of rest and worship in many religions. This Sunday, however, regardless of belief system, everyone will have a reason to “thank Heaven”. 7-11, everyone’s favorite chain convenience store, will be celebrating the date of July 11th (aptly, 7/11) by handing out free 7.11-ounce (ha get it?) Slurpees.

According to their website, July 11th marks the establishment’s birthday, as well as a myriad of other convenience store milestones; one of them being the Slurpee’s birthday. Adding to the splendor, special Slurpee Nation cups will be administered with rewards points on them, granting you an entry into 7-11’s instant win game, sponsored by A Major Music Promotions Company. Do with that information what you wish.

Slurpee, a relatively low-tech drink, has had quite a makeover by attaching itself to such pointless Facebook/internet games as Farmville, Mafia Wars, and Yoville. In addition to shifting its image, the beverage has also altered flavor choices as well: from normal Soda Flavored to Iron Man 2’s Invincible Orange and everything in between.

There are twelve different 7-11s in San Francisco. To find the one nearest you for celebration’s sake, visit 7-11’s store locator here.

It’s worth noting, though, before you make a special trip, that 7.11 ounces is not much of a drink — a “small” Slurpee is 12 ounces, after all. So think of this, perhaps, as fun-sized — but if Gavin Newsom were here, he’d tell you you don’t need all that sugar anyway.
