San Francisco police today released the name of the suspect in a fatal shooting late Saturday night during the city’s “Pink Saturday” celebration in the Castro District.
Ed Perkins, 20, of San Francisco, remains in custody today, charged with one count of murder in connection with the fatal shooting of 19-year-old Stephen Powell, police spokesman Sgt. Troy Dangerfield said.
Police said a gunman opened fire into a crowd at Market and Castro streets at about 11:30 p.m., killing Powell and injuring a 19-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man. Powell was hit in the torso; the other victims were each struck in the leg and are expected to survive.
Perkins was arrested near the shooting scene that night, Dangerfield said.
Police are still looking for additional suspects in the case.
The possible motive for the shooting was not released, but Dangerfield said no hate crime charges were filed.
“Pink Saturday” is a street party held the night before the San Francisco Pride Parade, which marked its 40th anniversary this year.
