sandcastle_lg.jpgGentlemen, start your bulldozers.

The official start of summer yesterday also marked the beginning of the annual Great Highway maintenance project. This year the Department of Public Works (DPW) will be relocating between 7,000 to 10,000 cubic yards of sand on Ocean Beach in order to improve areas eroded by winter storms through the Department’s Promenade Maintenance Project.

As a result, the southbound lane of The Great Highway between Lincoln Boulevard and Sloat Street will be closed every day this week between the hours of 7:00AM and 5:30 PM. The DPW is encouraging motorists to use Sunset Boulevard as an alternate route in order to ease traffic congestion along the Lower Great Highway.

The DPW is also working on the second stage of the Great Highway and Lake Merced Wastewater Tunnel Emergency Repair Project, which is meant to stabilize the bluff and improve drainage south of Sloat Boulevard.
