Bike_Lane.jpgPreviously: Hit And Run Driver Who Allegedly Targeted Cyclists Still At Large

San Francisco police today are continuing to search for a driver who struck four bicyclists in an apparent hit-and-run rampage in the city’s Mission and Potrero Hill neighborhoods Wednesday night.

The first report about the driver came in to police at 9:43 p.m. in the 2700 block of Harrison Street.

Three other similar reports were received within six minutes of each other in the 2800 block of Harrison Street; at the intersection of 23rd and Pennsylvania streets; and at 17th and Missouri streets, police Lt. Lyn Tomioka said.

The driver struck four male bicyclists with his blue Nissan Rogue, apparently on purpose, police said.

“He changed lanes in traffic, he went on the wrong side of the street,” Tomioka said. “Witnesses said he was driving to try and hit the bicyclists.”

After the Nissan struck the fourth victim at 17th and Missouri streets, it crashed into a pole and the driver ran away, Tomioka said. He is described only as a white male.

Three of the victims were hospitalized with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. The fourth was treated at the scene.

Renee Rivera, executive director of the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition, said today that the coalition is “just really sad to hear about this tragedy, and our thoughts are really with the four people who were injured.”

Rivera said she hopes the case does not deter people from biking in the city.

“San Francisco is a really safe place to bike, and getting safer all the time,” she said.
