A $2 million arrest warrant has been issued for a man wanted on suspicion of sexually assaulting a young family member on the campus of Sanchez Elementary School this afternoon, a police spokesman said.

Officer Samson Chan said Pedro Hernandez arrived at the campus at 325 Sanchez St. to bring the girl lunch some time between noon and 2 p.m.

“Today during the afternoon, a male relative of a female student brought lunch for her,” Chan said. “The male suspect brought the girl to a secluded area and engaged in sexual acts with her.”

A teacher who was suspicious of Hernandez allegedly found him assaulting the girl in a secluded area of the school and stopped him, Chan said. The teacher immediately called police.

“There was a surveillance camera set up in this area that captured the crime,” Chan said.
Chan said Hernandez was a “trusted family member” of the girl.

Law enforcement throughout the region and state have been notified of the incident and are on the lookout for Hernandez, Chan said.

He said the arrest warrant is regarding various sexual assault charges.

Hernandez, who lives in San Francisco and the East Bay, is 5 feet 2 inches tall, 140 pounds and has a mustache. He was last seen wearing a gray shirt, blue jeans and a bluish-gray baseball cap.

Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is asked to call police at (415) 575-4444.
