6:07 PM: Readers are reporting that there’s a large fire burning downtown — “Fire on Turk one block up (from) Market” and another says “something large is burning downtown…just off Market, close to Mason & Eddy I think (but I’m a bit high up, so I could be off a block or two).”
We’re checking in with SFFD now, if you know anything let us know, OK? Until then, sounds like a good idea to avoid the area.
6:20 PM: More reader reports: “They have block closed off, it is a big fire I think. Lots and lots of SFFD showing up, it is right on the corner of Turk and Taylor. The grey building on the north west corner.”
Bay City News has transmitted a one sentence update “The San Francisco fire department is fighting a three-alarm blaze in the area of Eddy and Taylor Streets, a dispatcher said.”
6:48 PM: Though we’ve still not heard back from SFFD, SFist reports that thought the fire now appears to be under control, injuries are possible, as they saw “an ambulance pulling away at a brisk pace.” They believe the burning building is “111 Taylor, which is home to a half-way house called Cornell Corrections.”
6:52 PM: Bay City News reports that “Firefighters controlled a three-alarm blaze at a residence in San Francisco’s Tenderloin district at about 6:30 p.m. today, a dispatcher said. Firefighters responded to the fire at 111 Taylor St. at 5:38 p.m.,
and the fire was raised to three-alarm at 6 p.m.”
