San Francisco Superior Court Judge Katherine Feinstein, a member of the bench for 10 years, was elected by her colleagues today to serve as presiding judge of the court.
Feinstein, 52, will serve a two-year term as presiding judge beginning on Jan. 1 and will replace Judge James McBride in the post.
She is the daughter of Sen. Dianne Feinstein and was appointed to the Superior Court by former Gov. Gray Davis in 2000.
Feinstein previously worked as a deputy city attorney specializing in child abuse and neglect, as a member of a private law firm, and as an assistant district attorney.
On the court, Feinstein currently presides over civil jury trials and has been assistant presiding judge for the past two years.
Feinstein said in a statement, “There are difficult days ahead for judicial officers, staff and the public in an era of reduced state funding.”
She also thanked her colleagues for their support.
“The San Francisco Superior Court is comprised of experienced and dedicated jurists for whom I have great respect,” she said.
Feinstein received her undergraduate degree from the University of California at Berkeley and her law degree from Hastings College of the Law.
