San Francisco teachers and their supporters will rally today to try to save the jobs of some 1,000 educators due to be laid off May 15.

Teachers are calling the event “Have a Heart Day” and will distribute thousands of buttons with pink hearts, as well as messages asking San Francisco Unified School District officials to halt the layoffs.

Rallies are planned before and after school at BART stations, schools and busy intersections, starting at 7 a.m. and continuing through 5:30 p.m.
