thumb_school_bus(1).jpgSan Francisco teachers will vote in two weeks on whether to call a strike vote, after negotiations with the San Francisco Unified School District failed to bridge the two sides, the union for the teachers announced Friday.

The United Educators of San Francisco said in a statement that the union agreed to have its members meet May 20 to consider a possible strike vote.

The union is hoping to save hundreds of the nearly 1,000 teacher and support staff layoffs scheduled for May 15.

The school district is battling a $113 million budget deficit.
