12:42 PM: We’ve received a report from Appeal staffer Katie Doze, who says that a 6 Parnassus Muni bus has collided with an SUV on Market at Montgomery, causing it to overturn. “It does not appear that any other car was involved” says Doze, who happened on the scene moments after it happened.

She says that the accident is blocking northbound buses, so if you’re in the area, prepare for bad traffic.

More details when we have them.

1:09 PM: No response yet to our phone call and email to the MTA, but an SFFD spokesperson is looking into the incident for us. Twitter tells us that traffic and transit along Market remains slow to stopped, and Doze says traffic is stopped as far back as 5th street. If you’re trying to get somewhere in the area, may we recommend the underground?

1:23 PM: An SF MTA spokesperson tells us that preliminary reports say that a Jeep-type SUV hit the island (the cement place where you wait for the bus, yikes), rolled over and hit the Operator side of the bus. As of yet, no injuries have been reported.

The spokesperson also noted that while outbound (that’s Market headed towards the Castro) traffic is fine, inbound traffic continues to suffer.

Doze, who’s still on the scene, says the car from the accident remains on the scene, blocking the F Market tracks and slowing the overall flow.

1:26: SFFD spokesperson Lt. Mindy Talmadge tells us that one person from the SUV was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

This is very similar to an accident that happened a while back on the N, over by duboce. Basically someone lost control of a vehicle and flipped over their car onto the tracks.

Fortunately no one was hurt. I’d be interested to find out the full report as to WHY the Jeep crashed – was it just a mishap or was someone driving foolishly in traffic, not paying attention?

Either way I’m glad no one was seriously hurt or killed. And while it sucks for Muni, this one can’t be blamed on them at all.

That is not a Jeep and not an SUV. It’s a Chevy HHR, which is to say it’s a rather small economy car with a comparatively low center of gravity. It should be relatively hard to flip one of those suckers over.

My question is why was this guy on Market in the first place? Did they ignore the turn off at sixth? Did they turn back on Market? Hmm.
