woodsechocoverweb72.jpgThis is not what it sounds like, OK? There is nothing in folksy pop act Woods’s “Suffering Season” that will make you suffer. Au contraire, mon frere–the track is nothing if not utterly pleasant and lightly effervescent. Like a glass of sparkling lemonade. Or grapefruit juice. Have you ever had sparkling grapefruit juice? It’s delicious.

Sparkling grapefruit juice might actually be a bit more of an apt comparison, since grapefruits have that nice substantive tang to them–which is what the guitar adds to this song.

“Who knows what tomorrow may bring?” say the lyrics, while the production answers, “Who cares? Today is awesome!” in bells and soft harmonies.

It’s an afternoon pick-me-up that will surely make the set list when the band plays Slim’s on June 11. Or, if you’re really big into the Woods, (heh) you can head out to Big Sur where they’ll be playing in the Woodsist (not a coincidence–the lead singer owns the label) Festival at a LIBRARY, the very next day.

At least, that’s what their MySpace says.

Check out the ol’ MySpace or listen to the track on Pitchfork.
