It sounds like San Francisco-based sextet Sleepy Sun would put on a wild live show. I’m listening to “Sleepy Son” (punny song title, plus ten points!) and picturing a lot of colored lights, head-banging hair-ography and I’m smelling a lot of drugs in the audience. People probably close their eyes spiritually and feel the long, grinding electric guitar riffs, the distorted harmonica and ball-and-chain rhythm. It’s probably fun times all around.

Fortunately, if any of this hard psychedelic rock re-imagined is up your alley, Sleepy Sun is playing at the Rickshaw Stop on April 24. Though their new album, Fever doesn’t come out until May 17, they’ll almost definitely play some new stuff, which maybe will earn them many hardcore fans who will come to be known as “Sleepy Heads.”

But perhaps I’m getting ahead of myself, here. Just listen to “Sleepy Son” on their MySpace and see what you think.
