folsom.jpgThe Bay Area Reporter is, uh, reporting that permits for the (NSFW) Up Your Alley and Folsom Street Fairs were approved on Thursday. This might be a surprise to some, given SFPD crackdowns at last year’s fests over what many see as an integral part of the events, public sex.

So how did the events make it through this year? Apparently by agreeing to what the BAR calls a “harsher sex policy.” Included in the new policy was an agreement by fair organizers to alert residents of local buildings that ejaculating out of windows would not be tolerated. Sorry!

At the permit hearing, Michael Petrelis reiterated his Chronicle-totally-freaking-out proposal that the fairs have sex tents for those who want to get down without going home.

“We are talking about thousands of people from around the world who come to San Francisco for S-E-X. Let’s be mature about it,” BAR quotes Petrelis as saying at the hearing. (But, Michael, it is hard to be mature with people shooting their wad out of windows! Perhaps that is just me.)

Sadly for Petrelis and his fellow campers, sex tents remained off the table, and the fairs will remain public sex free.

The Up Your Alley Fair aka Dore Alley is Sunday, July 25, Folsom’s Sunday, September 26.
