Hidey ho from the Richmond,

Like the rest of the city, we endured the freakish, “OMG is that snow?!” weather on Monday. My friend Hugh over at ob-kc.com captured some good shots of rainbows and the “snow”.

Some great Sutro Baths videos surfaced this week. First is a beautifully filmed look at the ruins of Sutro Baths which will give you a new appreciation for this oceanside oasis. Then flash back in time to 1958 when “Sutro’s” as it was called then, was prominently featured in the film “The Lineup”. It involves a sketchy Eli Wallach, a mysterious dude in a wheelchair, a cop, a blimp, and nuns. And great shots of the exterior and interior which at that time, had an ice rink in place of where the baths used to be.

If you’re looking for interesting events this weekend, don’t miss the 15th Annual Anarchist Bookfair in Golden Gate Park. Saturday night there’s a world music benefit for Haiti earthquake relief at the Rockit Room featuring Lakay & Mystic Man. And on Sunday, take the kids to the Russian Pre-Easter Bazaar on Sunday at the Holy Virgin Cathedral (the one with the gold-topped towers on Geary). Children’s games, piroshki, Easter bread, pascha, Easter egg coloring, kulich decorating, and more.

In other Golden Gate Park news, it looks like out-of-town visitors to the Botanical Garden will have to pony up some $$ to stop and smell the roses. The Rec & Park commission approved a plan for non-resident fees; the Board of Supes still have to approve. In other revenue-generating news, Segway tours will be returning to the park beginning this summer. I know the Segway never really took off as a mass market idea, but damn, they’re fun to ride!

Apparently the Richmond is giving the Sunset a run for its (cannabis) money… Last week police followed the blood trail from an abandoned hit n’ run vehicle to a storefront that had a marijuana grow house in the back of it – 290 plants worth. Busted!

Have a great weekend everyone!
