2:09 PM:Two San Francisco Police Department motorcycle officers who were hospitalized after crashing during a training exercise downtown this afternoon are expected to survive their injuries, police said.

The crash was reported at 12:54 p.m. at California and Grant streets, near Chinatown.
Fire Lt. Mindy Talmadge said the officers were going in the same direction up California Street, just west of Grant Avenue, when their motorcycles made contact with each other and they both went down.

Police spokeswoman Lt. Lyn Tomioka said the officers had been doing an escort training exercise when one of them hit an orange pylon in the street, which caused the accident.

Both were taken to San Francisco General Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, Tomioka said.

1:44 PM: Two San Francisco Police Department motorcycle officers have been hospitalized this afternoon after crashing near Chinatown, a fire department spokeswoman said.

The crash was reported at 12:54 p.m. at California and Grant streets.

Both have been transported to San Francisco General Hospital.
