A 28 year-old man is clinging to life today after being shot Thursday afternoon in San Francisco’s Bayview District in what investigators believe may have been a gang-related retaliation for another shooting the day before.

Thursday’s shooting occurred at about 1:40 p.m. near the intersection of Commer and Garlington courts, according to police spokesman Sgt. Wilfred Williams.

The victim was shot by a male suspect and suffered life-threatening injuries, according to Williams.

“We do believe it to be gang-related,” Williams said.

Williams said the shooting may have been related to a shooting on Wednesday morning just blocks away.

In that incident, a 17-year-old boy was hit in the leg in an apparent drive-by shooting near Oakdale Avenue and Baldwin Court at about 8:45 a.m.

Police said they believe the victim may be a gang member.

No arrests have been made in connection with either shooting.

Police declined to release further information about Thursday’s shooting, but are asking witnesses to contact them at the Police Department’s anonymous tip line (415) 575-4444 or by text message at “tip411” using the key word “sfpd.”
