The California Highway Patrol this morning responded to a vehicle fire involving a San Francisco Municipal Railway bus on Interstate Highway 280, a Muni spokesman said.
The CHP responded to southbound Highway 280 near Alemany Boulevard at around 5 a.m., where a Muni coach 8X-Bayshore Express was seen on the highway with smoke coming out of its engine, Muni spokesman Judson True said.
The malfunction was later determined to be an exhaust leak in the engine, True said, not a fire.
The coach was not in service at the time, and the bus was towed from the highway without injury.
