Elsewhere: Train Splits AC Transit Bus in Two KCBS, Amtrak train hits stalled bus – no one hurt Chron

10:42 AM:An Amtrak train carrying 40 passengers struck an empty AC Transit bus that had apparently stalled on the tracks in Oakland this morning, splitting the bus in half.

No injuries were reported, but the crash shut down the tracks and disrupted train service for nearly four hours.

Train No. 521, which runs from Sacramento to San Jose, struck the bus at about 6:45 a.m. in the area of 66th Avenue and San Leandro Street, Amtrak spokeswoman Vernae Graham said.

The bus, which was heading into service for the day, was empty when it stalled on the tracks, AC Transit spokesman Clarence Johnson said.

The driver got out of the bus before the train struck it. Afterward, half of the bus was on one side of the tracks and half was on the other, Johnson said.

None of passengers on the train was injured, Graham said. Thirty were taken by bus to their final destination, while the other 10 found alternate means of transportation, she said.
Amtrak set up a bus bridge between the agency’s Jack London Square and Coliseum/Airport stations to accommodate passengers on other trains heading to and from Sacramento until the crash was cleared, Graham said.

Johnson said the crash did not impact AC Transit service.

Oakland police are investigating the incident, along with Amtrak and AC Transit.

The crash was cleared and tracks reopened shortly before 10:30 a.m.
