3613272170_48e394e530.jpgIf you haven’t already, get off the fucking Appeal and go read Uptown Almanac’s great story on how Rec and Parks is (some would say “mis”) managing the planned renovations for Dolores Park.

UA’s Kevin Montgomery reports that in a time when city employees are flinching every time they see a pink piece of paper, the Rec and Parks Department recently retained an outside PR agency as their “communications and outreach consultants for the 2008 Clean and Safe Neighborhood Park Bond.”

Montgomery tells the Appeal that when he asked Rec and Park officials how much money was being spent on the contract with the PR agency, he was rebuffed. However, Montgomery has filed public records requests for that and oh so much more.

Montgomery also quotes a source as saying that after negative public reaction to UA’s initial story breaking the news that DoPa would be completely closing for a year, Parks director Phil Ginsberg told the project manager of the renovation to “change the story.”

Even if you don’t care about Dolores Park and its fans, this is a really interesting story of How The City Works. We at the Appeal are very excited to see how it develops. Now get out of here and read it.
