Elsewhere: Marriage licenses requested, and denied Chron, Shots From Today’s City Hall Marriage Equality Rally SF Weekly

Supporters of same-sex marriage will demonstrate at San Francisco City Hall today in a mass request at the county clerk’s office to receive marriage licenses.

Similar actions are expected in other cities as part of an effort to raise awareness of the cause.

A federal court in San Francisco is currently weighing the constitutionality of Proposition 8, enacted by California voters in 2008, which bans same-sex marriage in the state.

The event, organized by Marriage Equality USA, will “render visible the discrimination that is enforced every day,” the group said in a statement.

A rally is planned at 11 a.m. outside City Hall, followed by the visit to the clerk’s office and a dance performance and quilt exhibition inside City Hall.
