Police today released more details about a gang-related fatal shooting Wednesday in San Francisco’s Bayview District, but said they were no closer to identifying a suspect.

The victim, identified as 29-year-old Tony Lewis, was found gunned down inside a car in a Hunters Point public housing area in the 700 block of Jerrold Avenue at about 6:40 p.m., according to police.

The medical examiner’s office has not yet confirmed where Lewis had been living at the time.

According to Lt. Mike Stasko of the homicide detail, the shooting is believed to have been gang-related.

Lewis is thought to have been a member of a prominent Bayview gang, and gang tensions are on the rise in the area, Stasko said.

Lewis was found shot in the front passenger seat of a red sedan.

Stasko said Lewis and another man had driven to the area to see the man’s daughter. The second man had just stepped out of the car to talk with someone on his cell phone when Lewis was shot, he said.

Police have no suspect information at this time and witnesses have not been cooperative, Stasko said.
