Actor Robert Redford will speak tonight in San Francisco to promote activism and honor two local activists in the first of a series of 2010 Art of Activism events.

The event will begin with a conversation with Redford about exploring the dimensions of activism, spokeswoman Mona Baroudi said.

Two Bay Area activists will then be honored, Victor Diaz, the principal of Berkeley Technology Academy, and Avery Hale, a 15-year-old who founded an organization in 2006 that distributes new and gently used shoes to underprivileged people around the world, according to Baroudi.

Short films will be played of Diaz and Hale to highlight their activism and inspire others, Baroudi said.

The event begins at 7 p.m. at the Sundance Kabuki Cinemas at 1881 Post St. in San Francisco. Seating is limited. For more information visit www.redfordcenter.org.
