Is it too far into January to say Happy New Year? I’m never sure what the cutoff is for that greeting…

On the heels of our dramatic Ocean Beach surfer rescue comes a new website devoted to the Richmond’s coastline. Ocean Beach – Kelly’s Cove (ob-kc.com) offers visitors a real-time view of what’s happening at Ocean Beach. Get current weather conditions, tide tables, radar, wind conditions…there’s even a high resolution webcam. Check out a full day’s view of the beach in 2 minutes in the video below. There’s something soothing about it.

Despite the common new year’s resolution to lose weight, RichmondSFBlog has been full of foodie tidbits. EaterSF’s Top 38 list came out and one of our Japanese gems, Halu, made the list. “Dine About Town” kicks off this Friday and three of our best restaurants are participating – Aziza, Chapeau!, and the Cliff House. And finally, Burma Superstar announced they will now be open on Mondays, but closed on Tuesdays.

I spent some pixels this week discussing the Rec & Park Dept’s latest money-making idea – campouts in Golden Gate Park! Move over hippie hill, the rugrats and s’mores are moving in. They do it in New York City so it must be cool, right?

In other Rec & Park news, they’ll vote soon on whether to approve the Beach Chalet soccer fields renovation. I say yes, yes, and why not? What say you?

Are you a homeschoolin’ kind of family? The Academy of Sciences wants to treat you to a free day of fun, workshops, and hands-on programs. Enjoy all the museum has to offer plus special treats for the young and curious. Unless you keep penguins in your bathtub, I think this would top what you can teach them at home in a day.

Have a great weekend everyone!
