Your New Year’s resolution: try something new

With the holidays past and a gray January facing us straight on, it’s time to peel yourself off the couch and try something new – a new restaurant, a new wine, a new recipe. One of the joys of wine is that it is always new – a new vintage, a new producer, a new appellation. So, we think that resolving to try a new wine is a fine New Year’s resolution to consider.

For you urbanites, you may not know that artisan wine producers are just around the corner, even in your neighborhood. Sunnyside denizens Jennifer Waits and Brian Mast of Waits-Mast Family Cellars make their artisan pinot noir in small lots right here in the city and were recently recognized in the San Francisco Chronicle’s Top 100 Wines 2009.

On January 15, from 5:30 – 8:00pm, you can get out and try their pinot noirs at a “Neighborhood Family Winemakers” tasting at the San Francisco Wine Trading Company on Taraval Street in the Sunset. You can also pop into Canyon Market in Glen Park anytime to pick up one of their bottles. Or stop in at the newest wine bar in San Francisco, Red + White in Glen Park, as they will be pouring Waits-Mast pinot noirs as well.
