4:52 PM: Police are asking witnesses to come forward with information regarding San Francisco’s first homicide this year that left a man in his 20s dead early this morning.

Officers responded to the 500 block of Naples Street in the city’s Excelsior District at about 2:30 a.m. and found the man suffering from at least one gunshot wound, police said.

As of this afternoon, the medical examiner’s office had not identified the man.

No suspects have been arrested nor a motive established but authorities believe there may have been people in the area who witnessed the shooting, police said.

5:05 AM: The San Francisco Police Department is investigating the city’s first homicide of the year this morning, according to the department’s Operations Bureau.

Police said an adult male victim was found in the 500 block of Naples Street at 2:30 a.m. today. He appeared to have been shot to death.

As of 4:45 a.m., no arrests had been made and no suspect information was available.

Police said this was San Francisco’s first homicide of 2010.
