San Francisco police are searching for an armed male suspect who they say fled the scene of a homicide Thursday in San Francisco’s Bayview District.

The victim, Carley McFarland, 26, of San Francisco, was found shot multiple times outside 19 Garlington Court at about 6:40 p.m., according to police. He died later at the hospital.

Police are looking for a black male, 5 feet 5 inches to 5 feet 7 inches tall, who was seen running from the area carrying a handgun. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, a black cap and black shoes at the time.

Police are not sure of the suspect’s age.

The area is located near public housing and, according to police, has been troubled by violence.

According to police spokesman Sgt. Wilfred Williams, private security officers at that apartment complex heard eight to 10 gunshots, arrived and found McFarland shot.

The officers saw a group of individuals leaving the area, including the suspect who fled, Williams said. They stopped and questioned the others, but no arrests were made.
