In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Caltrain will once again operate the ‘Freedom Train’ on Monday, taking passengers to San Francisco for the holiday festivities.

The train will leave San Jose’s Diridon Caltrain Station, located at 65 Cahil St., at 9:30 a.m., stopping in Sunnyvale, Palo Alto and San Mateo.

Its final arrival will be in San Francisco around 10:55 a.m. From there, riders can go the Yerba Buena Gardens for a noontime celebration.

Caltrain spokeswoman Tasha Bartholomew said the event symbolizes the 1963 March on Washington when hundreds of thousands of people gathered for a demonstration for civil rights in Washington, D.C., and during which King delivered his “I Have A Dream” speech at the Lincoln Memorial.

The 26th Annual Freedom Train is a chartered event and is hosted by interfaith organization Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Association of Santa Clara Valley.

Tickets are $10 and are sold by the association. Tickets can be purchased by calling (408) 861-5323 or visiting http://mlksantaclaravalley.com/default.html.
