Police are warning residents in San Francisco’s Marina District of a string of recent apartment burglaries.

Northern Station Capt. Ann Mannix estimated there have been about a dozen burglaries in the past month in the Lombard Street area and adjoining streets to the north and south.

“There seems to be a pattern, around Lombard,” Mannix said. She said the suspect or suspects have taken jewelry, laptops and other electronic equipment.

“It seems to be enough that they would just fit in a backpack,” she said.

Mannix said unwitting residents may be allowing the burglar or burglars entry to the lobby areas of their apartments.

“We’re speculating that it may be someone who just fits in, walking in behind someone else,” she said.

Police believe the burglar then uses a tool or other device to force open apartment doors.
Mannix cautioned residents not to let anyone in that they don’t recognize.

Police have no description of the suspect or suspects.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Northern Station at (415) 614-3400, the police Investigations Unit at (415) 553-1484 or the confidential tip line at (415) 575-4444.
